The Third Book Of Lost Swords Stonecutter Story Saberhagen Lost Swords 3 eBook Fred Saberhagen
This book does read like a Sherlock Holmes story, but based in a fantasy setting. The main appeal for this book being Saberhagen using a different style and expanding on the setting for the Lost Swords series.Stonecutter is stolen from an ally of Prince Mark. The main characters Kasmir and Wen Chang search for the sword and try to recover it. They travel brings them to new areas and cities within the setting. Also expanded upon are the Blue and Red Temples.
Basically, this book is a fun and light read. The four star rating was attributed to several factors including price, new characters, expansion of the Lost Swords setting, use of Stonecutter to commit crimes, allies of Prince Mark, and Saberhagens willingness to try a new style for variety.

The Third Book Of Lost Swords Stonecutter Story Saberhagen Lost Swords 3 eBook Fred Saberhagen Reviews
I really enjoyed re-reading this entire series. first read it in the 1990s and was glad to revisit it.
This was quite a surprise, it isn't like the other Sword books, it is, essentially, a Sherlock Holmes novel.
We have the freelance investigator, Chang, who uses logic and observation to turn tiny clues into perfect deductions, he uses disguises, he even acquires a helper who is a doctor, Kasimir, and he keeps his helper in the dark for a lot of the book.
The pace is quick and Kasimir is a likeable enough character and the investigation is interesting.
There is no expansion of the bigger plot here, it is a simple self-contained story.
The ending is ok, predictable but enjoyable.
It's a straight-forward, enjoyable read just don't expect a sword-and-sorcery fantasy like the others.
If you enjoyed the primary series, you will enjoy these books.
At least you will recognize some of the characters
Read my mom's copy and decided to get my own.
My least favorite of all of Fred Saberhagen's Swords series, this book, in any other context, must still be considered a very entertaining tale. And to see the Sherlock Holmes character taken into another universe is pretty cool.
